WHAT IS THE NEWENT ONION FAYRE?
THE HISTORY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE'S MOST UNUSUAL SUMMER EVENT

Newent is unusual, for Gloucestershire's smallest town it actually boasts a very large number of shops.
While you're here, take a look around. This year there is the added bonus of the Shambles Courtyard being open to the public; cute shops tucked away down in a cobbled courtyard on the site of the original Shambles Museum.
Several weeks before the Onion Fayre many of the retailers dress their windows in the theme which this year is 'Football Crazy'. With our World Cup hopes dashed earlier in the year, 'crazy' can be taken two ways. Our team obviously didn't eat enough onions!
With prizes awarded for the most creative, certificates will proudly be on display. Forget the goal keepers and take a look around at the skill of our shop keepers!
If you're in town before the Onion Fayre, why not also check out what is on offer, and if you like walking there are two walks books available for the town and surrounding countryside too.
Programmes for the Onion Fayre will be available in advance from many of the shops and our friendly shopkeepers will be more than glad to tell you about what else there is to see and do in the area. Ask for a copy of our tourist leaflets which feature museums, attractions, places to visit in and around Newent.
